The following is a letter from Nathan Deal at Go Build Georgia. Superior Plumbing partnered with Go Build to sponsor the Jobs for Georgian’s Veterans Breakfast on November 8th. Below is some information about the program and event.
The November 8th, Jobs for Georgian’s Veterans Breakfast hosted by the Go Build Georgia Educational Foundation and Job Expo was a huge success. There were over 360 guests at the Breakfast and we saw over 5,000 veterans attend the Expo connecting with more than 300 Georgia companies – many walking away newly employed! We also had a successful launch of several new workforce initiatives including Priority of Service, Troops to Trucks, and Operation: Workforce. Thank you for being a part of such an important event and supporting our returning veterans.
Priority of Service policy builds upon the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) requirements for veteran’s priority of service and adds their spouses to the hiring prioritization.
Troops to Trucks will expedite entry of veterans into civilian employment in the transportation industry. Initial pilot program efforts will focus on making it easier for military personnel to obtain a Georgia Commercial Driver’s license (CDL).
Operation: Workforce will serve as an online one-stop for veteran resources and services in Georgia. This web portal will link resources from multiple state agencies and private organizations that serve veterans and will include dynamic content that is comprehensive, intuitive, and appealing to veterans and Georgia employers alike.
The site allows veterans to create a profile, upload a résumé, search and apply for job openings within the state of Georgia. It also allows Georgia employers to create profiles, post job listings, review job applicants and search the site for qualified candidates. Employers are able to sign a pledge of commitment to give enhanced hiring opportunities to Georgia’s veterans, and veterans are able to find veteran-friendly employers across the state.
To post a job opening go to www.operationworkforce.com, take the Pledge to Support Georgia Veterans and register your company.
With projects that educate Georgians of the lifestyle and wage benefits of the skilled trades or initiatives that ease the transition to the civilian workforce by bringing veterans together with Georgia companies the end goal is the same – getting Georgians to work and making our state one of the most competitive in the nation.
I hope you will continue to support Georgia’s veterans and workforce programs such as these. If you are an employer, I encourage you to go to the Operation: Workforce website, register your company, post job openings you have and review the resumes that have been uploaded.
